Matt is a Principal Associate in Eversheds Sutherland’s Litigation and Dispute Management group, described by clients as “a standout” lawyer (Legal 500 2026 and 2025), “very responsive and knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with” (Legal 500 2025), and “absolutely excellent and a rising star – very technically minded, great to work with and practical” (Legal 500 2024).
Matt helps his clients to navigate their most commercially sensitive and technically complex legal challenges, including in particular disputes in relation to technology, media and telecommunications (TMT), information and computer technology, data, privacy, information and cybersecurity. His focus is on achieving effective, efficient and commercial resolutions for his clients—whether that means leading hard-fought litigation, obtaining injunctions and other urgent relief, or guiding his clients through alternative dispute resolution methodologies.
Matt represents suppliers, customers, platform operators, and many others and is instructed by global clients on their most complex and high-value litigation involving large-scale, multi-party technology projects. His practice includes, for example, disputes relating to outsourced and managed IT services; data centre outages and design issues; information and computer technology contracting; software licensing; software, hardware and technology development; product safety; cybersecurity and data; and novel, developing technologies including Artificial Intelligence.
Matt's practice has a particular focus on litigation relating to information security and data. His experience includes cybersecurity response (from initial incident management and response, to injunctive relief and subsequent litigation), as well as defending threatened and actual group litigation and litigation by commercial parties and data subjects arising out of data breach incidents. He regularly provides strategic advice, before or after litigation arises, to businesses affected by multi-jurisdictional cybersecurity, ransomware and data security incidents (whether they are the victim of the incident, a supplier alleged to be at fault, or an impacted third party) and his experience includes legal proceedings against external suppliers, third parties and employees; obtaining urgent injunctive relief; advising on cyber litigation risk in connection with corporate transactions and insolvency; and developing and implementing defence strategies in response to large-scale data protection, information law and privacy incidents and mass-litigation risk.
