Partner David Phillips discusses his return to the Eversheds Sutherland Corporate Practice Group, including the importance of the team’s strong collaboration across multiple practices, which is critical for a successful M&A practice.
"You need the insights and observations of all of your colleagues in these various fields to really do a good job on a large M&A transaction," David said. "Eversheds Sutherland not only has a strong M&A practice, but we're strong in all the subject matter areas that have to support the M&A process."
David also commented on the value of his prior in-house legal leadership experience to his current private practice.
"I think both my in-house experiences really helped me grow as a lawyer and a trusted adviser," he said. "The breadth of issues that I saw in the chief legal officer role really helps me better understand the challenges that my clients are facing, so hopefully now that I'm back in private practice, and I've figuratively sat at their desk ... I'm better able to assist them and communicate with them in a way that helps them and is the most convenient for them, knowing the challenges they face and the level of detail they need."
