On 30 August 2023, the Federal Council proposed various measures to combat money laundering in a new draft law, simoultaneously sending it out for consultation. The most important change concerns the introduction of a non-public register aimed at identifying beneficial owners of Swiss companies and of foreign companies with a strong economical or legal presence in Switzerland. The consultation will last until the end of November 2023 and the Federal Council intends to submit the draft law to the Parliament in 2024.
This Legal Compass briefly outlines the current regulations regarding beneficial owners and goes into detail about the planned measures.
