Congress and DC Tax Standoff Leaves Local Filing Season in Limbo

Partner Charlie Kearns is quoted in a Bloomberg Tax article examining how congressional action has disrupted Washington, DC’s tax filing season, after the US Senate voted to disapprove the District’s recent decoupling from portions of the 2025 federal tax law. The move has introduced uncertainty for taxpayers and administrators and could require significant revisions to DC’s corporate tax forms if conformity is imposed, including changes related to bonus depreciation and research expensing.

In the article, Charlie noted the administrative challenge facing the District’s Office of Tax and Revenue if those changes must be implemented on an accelerated timeline. “Having to deal with this on such a short-term basis is [going to] be difficult,” he said.
