John supports clients in navigating compliance with Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations. His work includes developing regulatory compliance programs and procedures, preparing disclosures required under applicable CFTC and SEC rules, and participating in federal regulators’ rulemaking processes on behalf of clients. John also works closely with his clients to develop and structure derivatives transactions to achieve their business and financial objectives, including drafting and negotiating derivatives and other trading and financing documentation.
With respect to commercial matters involving commodities and derivatives trading, John assists clients in developing physical commodity and financial trading strategies, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations such as speculative position limits and regulatory swaps reporting. He also guides clients through government and internal investigations related to alleged market manipulation, disruptive trading practices, insider trading and other market behavior before federal agencies and regulated futures exchanges.
Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland, John was an extern for Judge Michael Urbanski in the US District Court for the Western District of Virginia. He also participated in Eversheds Sutherland’s 2022 summer associate program.
