Marc is a Partner in the Construction/Real Estate practice group and co-head of our Dusseldorf office.
Together with his team, Marc provides advice in particular in the context of real estate developments regarding the establishment and adjustment of building rights (development plans), in the area of obtaining and using the required approvals and in the area of contract drafting for the construction and use of real properties (purchase and lease agreements, management and operator agreements, architect and construction agreements). In recent years, he has focused on advising in the area of urban development, retail and logistics projects. His clients include cities and institutional investors as well as companies and medium-sized owners.
After his traineeship as a banker at Deutsche Bank AG in Dusseldorf, Marc studied law at the University of Bonn. Since May 2003, he has been a lawyer (since 2005 a partner) with the law firm Grooterhorst & Partner which became the Dusseldorf office of Eversheds Sutherland on 01 August 2017.
Marc's recent experience includes:
- advising a major city in Western Germany on the redevelopment of a central inner-city area (public investment volume of approx. 140 million euros)
- regular advice to real estate funds (investment volume of approx. one billion euros) on planning and contract law matters (asset management)
- advising a municipality on the establishment of an inner-city factory outlet center (30,000 m² sales area)
- various planning procedures regarding the restructuring of existing shopping centers in different cities on behalf of the owners
- development planning procedure for a large logistics center (area of the property approx. 10 ha)
- enforcement of claims for damages against planners due to planning errors (worth several million euros)
- EQT on the acquisition of a prime logistics facility in Borna, near Leipzig, through a sale-and-lease-back transaction with Fiege Real Estate
- advising EQT Exeter on the acquisition of Lidl's new distribution centre
Marc is recommended for environmental and planning law in the JUVE Handbook as well as for real estate law by Best Lawyers. Furthermore, he is recognized and recommended by the German business magazine WirtschaftsWoche as one of the top lawyers for real estate in Germany.
He is a member of the German Lawyers' Association (Deutscher Anwaltsverein).
