The choice of location of hydrogen facilities and related infrastructure is of key importance with respect to a hydrogen project’s design and overall commercial viability. As hydrogen must be delivered to the offtaker, the location characteristics of a hydrogen production facility and the facility’s proximity to the offtaker(s) site will involve significant consideration of environmental, physical and legal factors which will influence, and be influenced by, the hydrogen producer’s commercial proposition. Clear examples are the real estate rights required by the hydrogen facility/infrastructure, as well as the practical and technical implications of hydrogen delivery (which can be via pipeline or other physical delivery methods including road tanker).
