Eversheds Sutherland Welcomes Ricardo Martinez as Finance Partner in New York, Expanding Cross-Border Trade and Project Finance CapabilitiesJune 04, 2026 New York | Eversheds Sutherland today announced that Ricardo “Rick” Martinez has joined the firm as a partner in its US Finance practice in New York. His arrival adds substantial trade finance and multi-jurisdictional project finance experience, supporting clients pursuing cross-border transactions and enhancing the team’s broader finance and restructuring practice capabilities. For over two decades, Mr. Martinez has represented private equity funds, commercial and investment banks, Fortune 500 companies, multilateral development banks and US government agencies in project, trade and acquisition financings, asset-based and working capital facilities, and infrastructure and energy financings. He has closed transactions in most Latin American jurisdictions and has advised on matters across Europe, Asia and Africa. “Rick’s arrival marks an important addition to our finance platform and further strengthens our ability to support clients on complex cross-border matters,” said Lino Mendiola, Global Co-CEO and US Chief Executive of Eversheds Sutherland. “He brings substantial international experience and a sophisticated understanding of the evolving financing landscape, particularly as clients pursue opportunities across infrastructure, trade and other globally oriented sectors.” “We are delighted to welcome Rick to our US Finance practice group as we continue the strategic expansion of the team in response to clients’ evolving needs,” said Partner David Wender, US Finance Practice Group Leader. “Rick brings a strong combination of trade finance and project finance experience that adds meaningful depth to our ability to advise on complex financings involving multiple jurisdictions, stakeholders and structures.” Mr. Martinez, who is fluent in Spanish, has also led commodity, inventory and supply chain finance through letters of credit, pre-export credit facilities and the purchase and sale of trade receivables. Cross-border syndicated, secured lending also forms a substantive part of Mr. Martinez’s experience. “I am excited to join Eversheds Sutherland and to further develop my multi-jurisdictional practice in collaboration with colleagues across the firm’s finance, tax, international trade and disputes teams,” Mr. Martinez said. “Trade and project financings frequently involve multiple stakeholders, and clients benefit from coordinated advice that draws on experience across practices and jurisdictions. Eversheds Sutherland offers a strong platform to support clients on these complex, cross-border matters and to quickly adapt with leading-edge legal and business perspective for fast-changing global markets.” Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland, Mr. Martinez practiced at a major global law firm, where he led the Trade Finance Practice for the Americas, advising on cross-border trade, project and leveraged financings for lenders, sponsors and corporate borrowers. This year, the US Finance practice group has also welcomed Partner and Head of Texas Finance Phyllis Young in Houston and Senior Counsel Kathryn Nordick in Austin. Latest Insights
